Notes

The iOS keypad is limited. Some glyphs, like é and ü are there if you press a key a wait for a second. The alternatives will appear. Others are completely lacking, e.g. © ® and so forth. You can copy and paste them from other sources. There is a free app called Glyph-O-Rama. It provides dozens of symbols you can copy and then paste into your text.

Automatic Reference Counting (ARC)

This is a recent feature that is intended to make memory management easier and more automatic. The main reference is here. Frankly, I find it more complex than the usual retain/release pattern, not less so. I recommend that you become comfortable with ordinary reference counting before you step into ARC. Xcode has tools that are supposed to automate the transition to ARC.
